Kirsten Menger-Anderson was born in Santa Cruz, California and moved to New Jersey at age seven. She eventually found her way back to the West Coast and, aside from a one year stay in Barcelona, she has lived in San Francisco ever since. She currently resides in an 1896 Victorian with her husband, daughter, son, and cat. She earned an MA in English and creative writing from SFSU and a BA in economics from Haverford College. She once worked as a production manager for Hotwired.com and as the Director of Production for Salon.com. Her short stories have appeared or are forthcoming in the Southwest Review, Ploughshares, Maryland Review, Post Road, and Wascana Review, among other publications. Her work has been short listed for the Richard Yates Award, the Glimmer Train Short Story Award for New Writers, the Iowa Review Story Contest, and the Andre Dubus Award. Doctor Olaf van Schuler's Brain is her first book.
