I can remember, as a child, playing with figures cut from magazines and spending hours creating scenes and telling stories of their lives and adventures. Then the real world and earning a living intervened. After a long career in education, when writing was confined to academic journals, I looked forward to retirement and being able to indulge my passion for crime fiction. A fan of the golden age of crime writers as well as modern authors, a "meet-the-author" event at my local library birthed a desire to try my hand at writing my own book based in my native Northern Ireland. Lockdown gave me the chance to undertake a creative writing course and the time and space to put it into practice. The result is The Perfume Killer, the first in a series featuring DCI Gawn Girvin, a character who has been living in my imagination for over twenty years waiting to be brought to life. I live in Carrickfergus on the shores of Belfast Lough with my husband and crazy rescue dog, Hope. My hobbies are watching Formula 1, steam trains, researching the family history and spending time with my two grandchildren.
