Lydia Monks is an author and illustrator best known for her collaborations with Julia Donaldson. What the Ladybird Heard is their best-selling title, with over a million sales. Other titles include The Singing Mermaid and Sugarlump and the Unicorn. Their latest book is the fourth in the series, What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside. Lydia studied illustration at Kingston University, and was commissioned after her final show to illustrate a book of poems by Roger McGough. She has gone on to illustrate for many authors and poets including Carol Ann Duffy. Lydia writes her own stories too. Her first book, I Wish I Were A Dog won the Smarties Book Prize in 1999. She continues to write her own books alongside illustrating for others, her latest being the Twit Twoo School series, featuring Mouse, Frog and Rabbit.
