Mark Davies is a writer, communications professional and former journalist. In 2016 he was diagnosed with myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, and in 2021 he had a stem cell transplant. Now in remission, his first book - A Love Letter to Football - describes how the beautiful game helped him through the ordeal of treatment and the uncertainty of remission. Focusing primarily on his lifelong support for Middlesbrough Football Club it also details the way the game has helped him through some of life’s other challenges, from depression to bullying to fatherhood. Mark began his career as a journalist at the Liverpool Echo and worked for the BBC and CNN before become a special adviser to two Government ministers between 2004 and 2010. He has worked as a communications director at the Post Office, Rethink Mental Illness and the Web Foundation. He is currently Head of Communications and Campaigns for the Refugee Council. He lives with his wife and two sons in Sydenham , south-east London.
