Martin was born in London and spent most of his life in Northampton, where he followed a career in marketing and public relations, resulting in being appointed PR director of a UK plc. In 2001 Martin moved to southern Spain with his wife, Marion, where they both did a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, before opening their clinic in Fuengirola. Martin is an active member of the International Hypnosis Research Institute and both Martin and Marion are members of the British Institute of Hypnotherapy. Martin, along with his wife, is the developer and trade mark owner of the "Gastric mind Band", which is the weight loss method that has gained international media acclaim. In 2012, Martin signed a two-book publishing contract with Hay House, who are publishing the second edition of "Shirrans' Solution - The Gastric mind Band", as well as "Pause Button Therapy". In between seeing clients and training therapists from around the world, Martin is busy with Marion and Fiona on their next book, which they hope will be published in summer 2013.
