Nikisha Preston is an African American writer of children's books. She was inspired to write books of comfort for children raised in a single-parent home. Her first three stories are designed to help children, who look like her children, through various situations relating to growing up in a single-parent home. Nikisha was born and raised in the Midwest. She has lived in the (Washington) DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas and currently resides in California. As a single mother of two children, she never thought she would publish her books birthed from her situation. However, her inability to find children's books that addressed their particular situation, or that her children could relate to, made her start writing. Now she can share these stories with others, allowing them to fill in the necessary gaps and to aid in similar conversations. Knowing a lot about kids traveling alone and between parents, Nikisha’s first book Bi-Coastal Me tells the story of Kalee a child who travels between two parents. Her second book talks about a comforting mechanism Necko uses to cope.  Her third book talks about Necko and Kalee getting their first pet.
