Paul Sims (b.1952) was born and grew up in Southampton on the south coast of England. He attended New College, Oxford where he received a BA in Mathematics and set out on a successful career in Computer Science, during which he was awarded a Ph.D. by the University of Birmingham. He is married to Sue, an ex-teacher and expert on English as a language, as well as an authority on School Stories for Girls, and has three sons. He is owned by three cats, and possesses a large number of plush rhinos. In his late forties, he discovered a pleasure in writing, and has been committing words to paper since, chiefly for his own enjoyment. For many years, he has been chronicling the adventures of various characters in the Eranian universe created by his close friend, Bob Warr, who encouraged him to make them suitable for publication. The result has been Sunset in Silvana, Twilight in Telphania, and the forthcoming The Coral Planet. He has also published The Attic Trench, the first of a series of adventures of the Cambridge Gothic Society, a fictional group of paranormal investigators, successors to Montague Rhodes James. His closest brush with any kind of literary success (so far) was being a friend of best-selling crime novelist Val McDermid when at college.
