Peter Wensierski, born in 1954, began his work as a journalist in 1979 with reports and reports from the GDR. As a documentary filmmaker, reporter and book author, he reported on the emerging opposition movement in East Germany and continued his work from 1986 to 1993 for the ARD television magazine "Kontraste", then for 25 years as an editor in the German section of SPIEGEL. With the book "Beatings in the Name of the Lord" he opened the debate on abuses in home education in 2006 and received the Federal Cross of Merit for this. His 2014 book “The Forbidden Journey” about an unusual escape from the GDR became a bestseller. In 2017 "The Frightening Lightness of Revolution - How a Group of Young Leipzigers Dare to Rebellion in the GDR", in 2018 "Berlin - City of Revolt" and in 2019 "Window on Freedom" appeared.
