Rob Girard was born in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia to a Royal Canadian Navy Clearance Diver, and an elementary school teacher. He finds his inspiration in his love for all things ocean-related, and his love for story-telling. The second of four siblings, as a child he was sent to a small fishing village in Cape Breton to help his grandfather as a fisherman. It was in this small village, with its idyllic fishing culture, that Rob's understanding of this culture-by-sea came to being. Inspired by his grandfather's many experiences and stories, his own culture shock (having travelled from the mainland) to this village-back-in-time, most of his stories relate to his passion for the sea-as well as his love for his family. Once a teacher, Rob Girard is presently a fire captain, father of three boys, husband, and now, apparently, a story teller. He lives with his family near Halifax, Nova Scotia.
