Stephanie Hemphill’s first novel in poems, Things Left Unsaid, was awarded the 2006 Myra Cohn Livingston Award for Excellence in Poetry. Her second novel, a verse portrait of Sylvia Plath, Your Own, Sylvia received a 2008 Michael J. Printz Honor. Her book Wicked Girls, a novel of the Salem witch trials was a finalist for the 2011 Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Society of Midland Authors Award and has been selected for the 2015 Illinois Reads' list. Stephanie's novel Hideous Love: The Story of the Girl Who Wrote Frankenstein was named a Bank Street Book Committee 2014 Best Book of the Year. She was one of the seven authors of Fatal Throne: The Wives of Henry VIII Tell All which came out in May 2018 and has been selected for the 2019 Illinois Read's List. Her new novel The Language of Fire: Joan of Arc Reimagined will be available in June 2019. She regularly contributes poems to anthologies including PTag, The Poetry Friday Anthologies, Dare to Dream and The Poetry of US. Stephanie has written, studied, and presented poetry for adults and children at UCLA, the University of Illinois (where she received an award from The Academy of American Poets), and with Writers at Work. After many years in Los Angeles, Stephanie returned to her Midwestern roots and makes her home in the Chicago area.
