Stephanie M. Sellers has lived in North Carolina's Sandhills most of her life and at midlife attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for a Mass Communications/Journalism degree. While working as a reporter at The Pine Needle, she learned more than she bargained for and decided to help a marginal group of Natives being oppressed by the larger Lumbees who are state recognized by writing an article on their plight for social justice. It became the pivotal moment when she realized that working for social justice was her calling. Sellers has been writing poems, short stories and books for generations, but when the paper printed the story on North Carolina's Tuscarora she became the victim of racial hate from the Lumbee students, faculty and administration. She shares her story on her blog. She shares the book inspired by the region's conflict in The Exsanguination of the Second Society: A Scholarly Historical Fiction Relating to Robeson County, North Carolina’s Tuscaroras. She enjoys working as an independent journalist in North Carolina's Sandhills. Sellers is working on short stories for children inspired by her grandchildren and an adult psychological thriller, young adult, memoir, and screenplays. With her MFA in Creative Writing she looks forward to many years instructing screenplay writing.
