Stephen Lacey was born in 1963 at Gosford on the NSW Central Coast. He has a Masters Degree in Creative Writing from the University of Sydney. While at University, his first poems appeared in Southerly and later, Westerly, Cordite, Ulitarra and Quadrant. In 2000 Lacey gained first prize in the Max Harris Literary Awards, for his ‘Boatshed’ series. He has twice won the Henry Kendall Poetry Competition. After leaving University, Lacey worked as a TV researcher and in PR before forming his own media company – The Word Empire. His journalism appears in such diverse publications as The Good Weekend, The Sunday Magazine, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sunday Telegraph. The feature articles are often accompanied by photographs taken by his photographer wife, Marianne. In 2000 Lacey was awarded Sydney University’s Arthur Macquarie Travelling Scholarship to study Creative Writing at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. He passed up the scholarship to stay home and write his first novel…The Tin Moon (Published by Simon and Schuster in May 2002). His second novel, Sandstone (published by Hachette Livre in 2005) was short-listed for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. Lacey’s third novel, Henry Loves Jazz was published by MUP in 2009, while his fourth, Henry Goes to Hollywood is due out in 2011.
