Susan McConnell, MA, CIFST, CHT, having taught Internal Family Systems in the US and internationally since 1997, has authored a book essential to understanding the theory and practice of a somatic approach to this evidenced-based IFS Model. She integrates her experience and training in various bodywork, movement, body psychotherapy and spiritual modalities culminating in Somatic IFS. The somatic practices outlined in the book establish that a deeper embodiment of the internal family—the subpersonalities as well as the essential core Self—supports compassionate witnessing of the implicit body stories of individual hurts and societal burdens. Case studies and vignettes demonstrate the efficacy of Somatic IFS with applications for every clinical issue. McConnell's experience spans forty years of healing and teaching, from counseling domestic abuse survivors to healing trauma through structural and cranial sacral therapy, teaching Hakomi, and working as Senior Lead Trainer for the IFS Institute. She offers retreats, workshops and trainings in Somatic IFS to participants throughout the world and enjoys rest and play along the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago and the Indiana dunes with her family and friends.
