William J. Hirsch, Jr. AIA , NCARB, is a Registered Architect with over forty years of experience. He has extensive experience in custom residential design, as well as in the design of commercial, office, religious, recreational, and industrial buildings. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and past president of the Delaware Society of Architects. He received his Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia. Hirsch believes residential design is a very personal and emotional process that has to express the personality and needs of the owner, not the architect. He has recently moved to Callawassie Island in South Carolina, where he lives with his wife Maureen. They have four grown-up children and seven grandchildren. "As an architect, my job is not to impose a vision of what a house should be," said Bill Hirsch. "Instead, the architect is there to realize the client's unique vision. The consumer needs an advocate in the creative and building process and the architect's role is to advocate the customer's desires and balance those with the realities of time, money and energy." "My books are intended to help my readers in the same way as if I was at their side. Knowledge is power and the more knowledge you have when building or remodeling, the more control you will have over the process and the outcome. Hopefully everyone who reads my books or visits my websites will feel confident when beginning a project and their home will become their "Perfect House." My websites are: www.designingyourperfecthouse.com and www.wellcenteredhome.com
