Summary
Winter in South Dakota. Blowing snow, icy roads, a tired driver. A bus skids and crashes and is stranded in a gathering storm.
There's a small town 20 miles away, where a vulnerable witness is guarded around the clock. There's a strange stone building five miles further on, all alone on the prairie. There's a ruthless man who controls everything from the warmth of Mexico.
Jack Reacher hitched a ride in the back of the bus. A life without baggage has many advantages. And crucial disadvantages too, when it means facing the arctic cold without a coat. But he's equipped for the rest of his task. He doesn't want to put the world to rights. He just doesn’t like people who put it to wrongs.

61 Hours (Unabridged)
Have just finished listening and was hooked right to the end, but ... obviously not the conclusion.
Jeff Harding's inimitable rendition of 'Reacher-speak' never fails to conjure up our rangy hero, and the author, as always, creates a particularly nasty antagonist who challenges our hero's self-confidence.
I did guess the bad-guy of the bunch before the end, but then I like it when I can follow all the clues.
And, I can't wait for the sequel - there just has to be one!

Worrying for Jack Reacher fans
For those addicted to Jack Reacher's adventures this is a worrying book as we're left wondering what happens to our hero at the end?
Beautifully read to capture Jack's laconic voice, this is very much a 'slow burner' that builds up to a very hot ending (this, as you will discover, is a dreadful pun!). Jack falls for two women, one elderly lady who he meets on a daily basis, and one who he never gets to meet.
Lee Child will never win the Booker Prize but he will keep you guessing as you sit on the edge of your seat. Great stuff.

“I'm not afraid of death. Death's afraid of me.”
What did you like most about 61 Hours?
I do not agree with the negative reviews. This is Jack Reacher doing what he does best. Tracking down and killing the bad people. I think I am getting well used to Lee Child and have identified the killer well before the end be it a Cop or an FBI Agent. Keep em coming, please.

61 Hours - 60 hours too much
I have read (or in the case of his last two novels, listened to) every Jack Reacher. I listened to Gone Tomoprrow and was sorely disappointed and concerned that Lee Child had lost the momentum with Reacher. Sadly, 61 Hours seems to have proved me right.
The narration was fine, but in the same way that a bad script can fatally destroy a fine actor, the narrator was having to deal with Lee Child well below his early best.
Fantastic (in the real sense) plotting and some unbelievable, shallowly-developed characters made this probably the last Lee Child, certainly the last Reacher novel, I'll be reading until I reread one of his early best.

Not Child's best
Any additional comments?
I enjoy the escapism of a good Reacher novel, but was disappointed by this offering. I was able to guess a lot of the "twists" and felt that in many ways this was done deliberately by Child as a bit of an experiment. I liked the Janet Salter character and the way that she engaged with Reacher, but found the other characters were not particularly memorable. Child's next novel "Worth dying for" is very much a return to form. Jeff Harding was good as ever...

Sheesh what a bore
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I have listened to a load of Jack Reacher - not sure what happened here. I found it really boring and hard work. Just nothing seemed to happen for ages, I lost track of the plot and really listened to get value for money.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Lee child on usual form
What made the experience of listening to 61 Hours the most enjoyable?
The story is well read and reasonably engaging. However, I felt it was very much in keeping with other Lee child stories i have read and contain nothing new in terms of plot structure. The main villain character was not particularly well developed so it was difficult to care what he happened to him in the story
If you’ve listened to books by Lee Child before, how does this one compare?
Similar plot structure but not as much human interest as other stories I have listened to or read by the same author.
Have you listened to any of Jeff Harding’s other performances? How does this one compare?
i have not listened to this reader before - however I felt he read well.

Lee Child has done it again!
I don't know how Lee Child comes up with his ideas but they are always fresh and my best second guess is never right! Another supert action thriller which twists and turns with every page. I coudln't put it down. I think I have listened to all the Jack Reacher novels he as written and eagerly anticipate the next one.
If action thrillers are your thing, you will not be disappointed wth this book written in Lee Child's unique style. I just wish he could write them as fast as I can read them!

Very reliant on your view of the Narrator
This was my first Jack Reacher novel. Have to say the cadence of the narrator felt a little strange at first. However, after a while you kind of slip into the tempo.
Having subsequently read the first Reacher novel on Kindle, Jeffrey Hardings narration dovetails really well with Lee Childs quirky prose. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

This story is best left for summer, its very cold!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Lee Child is a winner!
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The cold war relics, the crook and the phone romance were most interesting.I knew who the traitor was very early in the book, so it appears did Reacher. But if so, why did he not call him out earlier? Why let the witness die?The traitor should have been killed with a bit more grovelling and ceremony :)The ending is somewhat ambiguous. You have to read A wanted man, and then Never go back, to fully understand if Reacher is still alive or dead.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Jeff Harding?
Always
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Jack Reacher
Any additional comments?
Keep em coming :)

Entertaining guff
Would you try another book from Lee Child and/or Jeff Harding?
I am told that Lee Childs other books are much better - will give them a shot.
What could Lee Child have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
This story is implausible on so many levels that suspension of disbelief is more effort than it is worth. It started off well enough, but the identity of the bent cop was painfully obvious from the start and none of the characters were meaningfully developed.
Which character – as performed by Jeff Harding – was your favorite?
The book is very well read and the narrator did not
