About this listen
Society said they shouldn't fall in love...
It’s 1828, and Ireland is in turmoil as Irish tenants protest against their upper-class English landlords.
Nineteen-year-old Bridget Muldowney is thrilled to return to the estate in Carlow she’ll inherit when she comes of age. But since she left for Dublin seven years earlier, the tomboy has become a refined young lady, engaged to be married to a dashing English gentleman.
Cormac McGovern, now a stable hand on the estate, has missed his childhood friend. He and Bridget had once been thick as thieves, running wild around the countryside together.
When Bridget and Cormac meet again their friendship begins to rekindle, but it’s different now that they are adults. Bridget’s overbearing mother, determined to enforce the employer-servant boundaries, conspires with Bridget’s fiancé to keep the pair apart.
With the odds stacked against them, can Bridget and Cormac’s childhood attachment blossom into something more?
A Class Apart is the first book in Susie Murphy's historical fiction series A Matter of Class. The story continues in the second book, A Class Entwined.

A true gem
I am a big reader and audiobook listener. I can't tell how many times the narrative style of an author (despite the enjoyable storyline) seemed clichéd, forced and stilted, or even very obviously trying to imitate someone else's. Susie Murphy's is most definitely not that. It is an authentic and a balanced blend of richness and subtlety. It flows and draws you in smoothly. And Gary Furlong's narration is flawless. He's amazingly talented, both at narrative warmth, intonation and pace, and characterisation, that is: bringing the story to life playing so many characters differently, perfectly matching their personalities and never confusing the reader. I'm a new fan and I highly recommend them!

Fantastic love story!
What a great listen! I feel in love with the characters and the gripping plot. A story of forbidden love that makes you want to keep listening. It is beautifully narrated too. A great listen on these Autumn walks. I am looking forward to listening to the next books in the series.

Lovely story
This book was sent to me as a gift. Wasn’t sure it would be my cup of tea but was surprised to find myself drawn into the story & characters. Really enjoyed it. Was so disappointed the following books weren’t available on Audible at the time but delighted to find that they have since been made available! Will definitely continue to the next one now to find out what becomes of Bridget & Cormac!

I love this book!
This popped up on my Facebook feed and I’m glad I checked it out. A period drama romance of two lovers from two different classes, their relationship destined to be doomed….or is it?!
Very well written with the right amount of detail to keep you listening and perfectly narrated by Gary Furlong. Now to listen to book 2. Please please narrate book 3 and book 4, I would love to listen to these too! 🙏

Slow start but drawn in
I enjoyed the story line so far, though slow start. What I didn't enjoy was the audible narration, this was quite dull and lifeless. That said I may continue the saga.
