Summary

It's December 1967, and the town of Kinloch is cut off by heavy snow. With all roads closed, the only way to feed and water the townsfolk is for the fishing fleet to sail to Girvan for much needed supplies.

But the skipper of the Girl Maggie, Sandy Hoynes, has a problem. First Mate Hamish has, to everyone's astonishment, been chosen as Young Fisherman of the Year by a Glasgow newspaper. Marooned in the town and with one eye on a scoop, their reporter decides to join the fishing crew on their mercy mission. The thought of the publicity - and some remuneration - delights Hoynes. But Hamish hasn't told him the whole story.

As the blizzards worsen, the crew of the Girl Maggie embarks upon a trip like no other, encountering ghostly Vikings, gigantic crustaceans and a helpful seagull.

Brilliant!

I’ve loved all stories which included Hamish & his associates but this has been by far my favourite. Loved it so much I listened to it again immediately!
Very funny, so well written & thoroughly enjoyable. And David Monteath’s narration is the icing on the cake. Nobody else could come close. Please, please can we have more of these lovely Hamish stories.

Entertaining

I have read all the Kinloch books by Denzil Meyrick and this novelette was as good as the longer books. Fingers crossed for more. Great narration as usual by David Monteath.

Hilarious!

If like me you're a big fan of Hamish, this book will be right up your street. I genuinely laughed out loud and it's been a long time since a book made me do that. You can tell that Meryck had fun with this.

Gotta love Hamish, Hoyes and the Viking

Don't think I've chuckled so much listening to an audiobook. It's bloody brilliant! If you're a DCI Daley fan, this will give you a little bit of Hamish backstory but it's an amazing listen in its own right.
