Summary

A brand new cozy crime series set in gorgeous Tuscany...It's murder in paradise!

A remote retreat…

Nestled high in the Tuscan hills lies Villa Volpone, home to renowned crime writer Jonah Moore and his creative writing course. It’s also the last place retired DCI Dan Armstrong expected to spend his retirement! Dan’s no writer, but maybe this break will help him to think about the next chapter in his own life story?

A gruesome murder…

But only days into the course, Jonah Moore is found stabbed to death with his award-winning silver dagger! And Dan finds himself pulled out of retirement with a killer to catch.

Eleven possible suspects.

The other guests all seem shocked by Jonah’s death, but Dan knows that one of them must be lying. And as he and Italian Inspector Virgilio Pisano begin to investigate it quickly becomes clear that everyone at Villa Volpone has secrets to hide…

But can Dan discover who the murderer is before they strike again?

A gripping new murder mystery series by bestselling author T.A. Williams, perfect for fans of Lee Strauss and Beth Byers.

Fantastic new series.

So enjoyed the story, keeps you guessing, love the main character, really well read and can’t wait for the next book.
I hope the series is going to be a long one.

Cosy Crime & Travel Dreams Combined

I have fallen in love with T.A Williams and this series. I’ve now listened to all three books in three days and I have loved everyone. Yes - there’s some repetition & needless filler - less so each book as there series progresses - so stick with it. But I think overall this is an excellent series.

The description of Tuscany/Undiscovered Italy is beautiful. I actually was married in Monteriggioni so was thrilled to be able to identify and relate my love of the area to the descriptions in these books.

These books don’t really feel like they are about “who dun it”… although of course that is the premise… but you end up just falling in love with the characters and enjoy being swept along with the journey of each book.

Boldwood are becoming known for books that give you the wam feels but that also give depth of character, great stories and well executed stories. They might not be made into Hollywood films… but they are delightful to listen to. Highly recommended to those who just love to lose themselves in good characters and strong story lines without the
Need for endless shock, horror and gore.

lovely setting , really good accents

lovely setting , really good narration.
just got a abit fed up that in every chapter the main character mentions his soon too be ex wife , every single chapter he’s reminiscing, it just got a bit tedious, apart from that !!!! was ok

Enjoyable and I will try more in the series

I enjoyed this book very much. It’s not gory, the story is interesting and the descriptions of food and the scenery make the setting very inviting. I will definitely try more in the series. One gripe: I have no idea how accurate the descriptions of Florence are, but as a resident of West Sussex I know for certain that Littlehampton and the nearby village of Lyminster are not in Hampshire!

Daft fun

A bunch of wannabe erotica writers are joined by a retired Police Inspector in Florence. The characters are fun, the plot flows easily and you won’t be shocked by the twists but there’s fun to be had from smutty old ladies and the protagonist’s awkwardness. It does feel slightly like a prequel to a series but that’s fine. One question-why do authors make police officers likeable? Recent events have shown them to be racist, misogynistic and violent towards partners and strangers alike and yet fictional detectives are always the non-spoiled apple in the barrel.

The narrator

It's the first time I've listened to Simon Mattacks, but it definitely won't be the last! His consistency with the voice of each character and his Italian accent are superb 👌
Complimenti Simon (I live in Italy 🇮🇹) 👏👏

Absolutely Brilliant, excellently written.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the twists and turns were very well thought out. I spotted some things coming, others were a complete surprise. The plot points I thought I had figured out I was excited to see if I was right rather than it being obvious as in some stories. Looking forward to the rest!

An enjoyable light sometimes amusing listen

I enjoyed this. Its one of the longer audiobooks I've listened to and I was entertained pretty much throughout. It reminded me slightly of the TV series 'The Madame Blanc Mysteries' - like the tag line says, its a 'cozy mystery'. It was nice picturing the Italian settings (landscapes etc.) and the characters were quirky and sometimes funny. I liked the interaction with the main character and the dog too, of course. An enjoyable listen, I recommend this. The narrator was fine too, the voice didn't irritate me (sometimes people with strong accents can bother me a bit but it wasn't an issue with this audiobook)
