Summary

By turns funny, charming, and sad, this is the story of a sensitive and sickly lad's northern working-class childhood; of a loving mother who kept him off school because of his asthma; of how he washed up in hotels by night to fund studying at RADA by day and would often be found asleep in class. Rodney also tells of laddish behaviour in swinging London, how he climbed Big Ben to hang a pair of knickers on the hand of the clock, his troubled relationship with Likely Lads co-star James Bolam and many celebrity stories, featuring Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud, Rod Steiger, Jimmy Nail, and Mel Smith.

Bob

Love the Likely Lads an recently downloaded the writers (Ian n Dick) story but I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy this, however it was a good choice, nothing great but definitely worth a listen if you like little tit bits of an actor’s life

Good tales. Choppy in places.

Be in no doubt, this is a good audio book to chill out and listen to. Mr. Bewes is very clear in his reading and gives good attempts to render other accents as he speaks of other people.

He's clearly had a colourful life and even in the often limited information we are given about certain times, it shows. I am sure there is good reason for he not detailing more over certain times. For the listener this has the unfortunate affect of leaving parts of his life very choppy. It's as if this audio book was a cut down one from a larger one. We at times get snipits then quickly moved on.
.
Sometimes Mr Bowes within a breath, jumps from one chapter to another and the listener might not be able to grasp this. Stuff is raced through. The audio book also ends very suddenly. Bang. Gone. We are left wondering what's happened in the period of early 1994 and 2019.
.
Having said all the above, I again state that it's a good audio book. Great to hear to many tales from all over the place. I have no regrets in purchasing this audio book.

I had no idea

I had no idea who this actor was, I only knew him from the 'Likely Lads', but he was also a writer, director, divorcee, father, son and husband.
