About this listen

Series five & six of the BBC radio sitcom starring Harry H Corbett and Wilfrid Brambell, adapted from the much-loved TV series.

Steptoe and Son ran for eight series on BBC TV and even spawned two feature films. Such was the series' popularity in the mid-1960s that the cast specially recorded several episodes for BBC radio. Here, collected together for the first time, are all episodes from the fifth and sixth radio series, scripted by Hancock's Half Hour creators Ray Galton and Alan Simpson.

The episodes included are 'The Desperate Hours'; 'Come Dancing'; 'A Star Is Born'; 'A Winter's Tale'; 'Men of Property'; 'Men of Letters'; 'Loathe Story'; 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mourning'; 'Live Now, PAYE Later'; 'Upstairs, Downstairs, Upstairs, Downtairs'; 'And So to Bed'; 'Porn Yesterday'; 'The Seven Steptoerai'; 'Seance in a Wet Rag'; and 'Bone Yard', and a special Christmas edition first broadcast as part of David Jacobs' Crackers in 1976.

Classic radio at its best

I came to Steptoe and son through seeing it on a Sky channel called Gold. What really hooked me was the various levels of manipulation Albert had up his sleeves and the hope that Harold would get his own back. I've only seen a few TV episodes, but when I saw this was available on Audible I grabbed it and wasn't disappointed. Even though Albert wins most of the time, it makes it all the more satisfying when Harold wins big such as in the Christmas episode.

All in all a very well scripted and adapted for radio series that made me laugh and pass a very quick seven plus hours.

Steptoe & Son series 5 and 6

People of my age, born in the early 60s, and earlier will remember just how good these performances were, the radio plays in particular for me personally; it just feels like they belong there. Either way the TV series was great too, not too sure about the film spin offs, it would be the same now due to woke and language being used. That’s why I fully recommend all of these radio plays as it gets close to how I recall them, throughly recommended.

Excellent as always had me 😂😆😂

This exceptionally funny father n son duo, the poor rag n bone men, are at their very best in this 5/6 series - has you laughing from beginning to end!
This is British comedy at its very best, like they say, they just don’t write stuff like this anymore!
(Prob because 1/4 of it wouldn’t be allowed 😮😜)
If you liked to watch them on tv then you won’t be disappointed in this audiobook - u can just close your eyes and imagine, it takes you right back.
Well worth it IF you love a good laugh

Just be aware, some comments/saying MAY offend some ppl, but remember it was filmed back in the 60’s!

Fantastic Listening

As I never seem to have the time to sit down in front of a TV and watch all of these classics, I decided to download these audio series. I have now listened to all series from first to last, and although when going through them all, some plots seem familiar, the quality of material and genuine laugh out loud moments are many. Shame there are no more - blooming fantastic fun. RIP gentlemen, your legend lives on!
