Summary

One day a man arrives in town. Unassuming. Quiet.

The assassin known as Victor is hiding out in a small motel in Canada after a job across the border. A few days laying low and he'll be gone leaving no trace behind.

He doesn't count on getting to know a mother and her boy who reminds him of his own troubled childhood. When both vanish, only Victor seems to notice.

Once he starts looking for them, he finds himself at odds with the criminals who own the town. They want him gone. Only Victor's going nowhere until he discovers the truth and to them he's just a quiet man asking the wrong questions.

But that quiet man is a dangerous man.

Victor meets Jack Reacher

Best Victor book yet, great character development, great story and felt very much like the best bits of Victor combined with a Jack Reacher type story

A different side of Victor

A real exploration and explanation of how and why Victor really is a man of his word.

brilliant

gripping from start to finish, Victor is a bad man and very few people survive to tell their story.

Another excellent listen.

I really enjoyed this novel, as I have all the other Victor books in the series.
I agree with most of the reviewers the best Narrator was the American Narrator Rob Shapiro.
However, it looks like Rob Shapiro doesn’t narrate these books any longer, as I used to wait til the end of the year and buy the cds.
Peter noble I did find a much better narrator for these books than Daniel Philpot.
The story was good, but it did remind me of Jack reacher in some parts. The way Victor planned all his moves.
That by the way is another excellent series.
If there’s one thing I could wish for from these novels, is that he would bring Raven back. Either as someone who works with him from time to time, or even better, has her own series of novels.
Thanks Tom for another great novel, looking forward to the next. Maybe if the publishers had any sense, they would want another series with Raven.

Great narration

The narration was really good and the story wasn’t too bad but did seem to drag towards the end

Broke the mold …in a very good way

The traditional assassin story line took more of a Reqcher or Milton line which was strange at first. The story builds and builds with meticulous awareness and precisely administered adrenalin. Another excellent piece of work Tom Wood.

Change of Narrator

7 books in the series are narrated by Daniel Phillpot then for the last two it’s Peter Noble.
I’ve got nothing against Peters performance, it was very good. However when you’ve listened to 80+ hours of the Daniel Phillpot reading you get a picture in your head about Victor that is some what tarnished by a different voice being used in the last two books.
Spoiled it a little
