Summary
Dean Karnazes has pushed his body and mind to inconceivable limits, from running in the shoe-melting heat of Death Valley to the lung-freezing cold of the South Pole. He's raced and competed across the globe and once ran 50 marathons, in 50 states, on 50 consecutive days.
In A Runner's High, Karnazes chronicles his return to the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run in his mid-50s after first completing the race decades ago. The Western States, infamous for its rugged terrain and extreme temperatures, becomes the most demanding competition of his life, a physical and emotional reckoning and a battle to stay true to one's purpose. Confronting his age, wearying body, career path and life choices, we see Karnazes as we never have before, raw and exposed. A Runner's High is both an endorphin-fuelled story and a love letter to the sport from one of its most celebrated ambassadors.

Writer & Runner!
I have never met someone so good at two things. Phenomenal story telling, talent, endurance and humility.
Thank you so much Dean.

Great read!
Great book man! I have seen those couple of one star reviews so was considering if this will be a good one, but it was beyond my expectation. Those people clearly have problems with themselves, not with your book. A great story, plus I love your sense of humor. You made me laugh many times. But also nearly cried once too.

Self absorbed
I hope this puts an end to this saga. Spent to much time name dropping his chums. Epic runner but grew tired of his winging. I found that he was merely using this as platform to name as many of his family and friends. Certainly not as god as the first book.

A Truly inspirational story
I listened to and read quite a few running books but this one by far the most enjoyable so far. Dean's stories include the good, the bad and the ugly and told in such an engaging way that I found it hard to stop listening to it. I look forward to listening to his other books. I highly recommend it to anyone!

A Great Listen
Extremely well read and a relatable story of real life experiences of a running who had to make life choices and constantly balanced running, family and the fact he's not getting any younger. Highly recommended.

Karno IS Human
The book consists of Dean recounting races that he has completed later in his life and his aim to compete in the Western States 100 again. He details the throes and woes of racing as an aging man showing that he is actually a human being and not the infallible demi god I've always regarded him as. The book is a very satisfying listen and Dean still keeps the flames of inspiration burning brightly through his wise and often witty take on the modern world of ultra running.

Sorry, it was rubbish!
I’ve heard about Dean’s books and thought I’d listen to one. Despite the glowing reviews and the fact he seems like a great guy…….this was nonsense, poorly narrated!

A fantastic read
With so many adventures under his belt I’m only surprised there aren’t more books. A perfectly articulated narration of a runner and a father. Eye opening on more levels than most running biographical tales. I look forward to more from Karno and team

Quality from Dean
Dean Karnazes books are absorbing partly as the story is compelling but also because he is such a good writer. Nicely narrated for me as well.

Inspiring & enjoyable story. Thank you.
He is an inspiring man. It’s that simple his story, his storytelling is great.
(Only gripe is this narrator is weak compared to those on his other books, good enough but not great)
