Sounds like it has been computer generated.
What disappointed you about Running Up That Hill?
This genuinely sounds like it's been generated by an AI voice system. Staccato and inflected at the wrong points. I downloaded as I have listened to Vassos on stage and obviously on the radio and he is very articulate.
Really didn't understand what was going on with it. Gave up after 15 minutes as it was so frustrating so can't vouch for whether it got better.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
See above.

Another great motivating and inspiring listen
Really enjoyed his first book, this one was just as good, making a plodding short distance runner like me think and want to take on more exciting adventures. I listen on my cycle commute (audio books allow me to still hear the road and traffic) and love uplifting tales to start my day.

Low audio quality at beginning
The audio quality at the beginning was awful. It improved enough to listen to the rest or I got used to it. The words were oddly clipped as if individually recorded, so I wondered if it was run through some software to remove pauses or something.
Anyway, other than the problems with the recording, I did enjoy hearing Vassos tell his own story about ultra running journeys. I had recently finished a paper copy of his previous book and it was great to hear this one. The format of his books has a bit of jumping around time wise and this is a bit harder to follow in the audio format but I was expecting it from the previous book.
He has interviews and tips from other runners which makes it feel really good value. He really makes you feel like you are there for the highs and lows and inspires me to put my trainers on and get out there as a beginning runner.
I hope hear more about his future running adventures.

Awful narration at the start, gets better
Like some of the other reviewers have already mentioned, the narration at the start of this book is pretty awful. I don't know why this should be the case, given the author's radio background, If anything you'd think he'd be ideally suited to narrating the book. But there are strange pauses in the middle of sentences, unusual emphasis on certain words, and in general just a complete lack of any natural flow.
Having said that, it does gradually get better towards the end of the book. If you can gets past the poor narration at the start, then overall it is an interesting listen.

Entertaining, honest, inspiring.
Vassos writes with abasolute honestly about his experiences. This is done is such a human way as not to discount my own running efforts which may seem insignificant by comparison. Thank you Vassos, for sharing. Your passion is infectious and I can't wait to join you in your next adventure.

loved listening to this book! So interesting.
loved listening to this book. Vassos writes and reads very well, and I love the way it jumps about to different interviews and subjects it seemed help.hazard but actually really works.
