Summary
It's 1968, and the fishermen of Kinloch are preparing to celebrate the old New Year on the 12th of January. The annual pilgrimage to the Auld Stones is a tradition that goes back beyond memory, and young Hamish, first mate on the Girl Maggie, is chuffed that he's been invited to this exclusive gathering - usually reserved for the most senior members of Kinloch's fishing community.
Meanwhile, it appears that the new owners of the Firdale Hotel are intent upon turning their customers teetotal, such is the exorbitant price they are charging for whisky. Wily skipper Sandy Hoynes comes up with a plan to deliver the spirit to the thirsty villagers at a price they can afford through his connections with a local still-man.
But when the Revenue are tipped off, it looks as though Hoynes and Hamish's mercy mission might run aground. Can the power of the Auld Stones come to their rescue, and is the reappearance of a face from Hoynes' past a sign for good or ill?

A toast to the author.
This is the second tale from Kinloch book. A really pleasant listen beautifully read by David Monteath. I recommend this book to all.

Beautiful
Loved everything about this gentle story. Such a beautifully immersive tale, and the reading was sublime. Will definitely be looking for more by this author and narrator.

Tales of Old Kinloch
What a treat. A celebration of the old new year that draws in the old stories of the Argyll peninsular. A little magic , a little terror and plenty of mischief . A wee triumph.

Kintyre at its best
This was just the most wonderful story of mystery and the sea. I was spellbound throughout. Denzil Meyrick casts a spell over this half Scottish lady who adores David Monteath’s gorgeous accent. Storytelling at its best, with laugh out loud moments as always. Worth a credit in anyone’s money.

A wonderful surprise!
I don’t quite know what I was expecting, but as I enjoy reading Denzil Meyrick’s books I decided to give this a go.
At first I thought I had made a mistake. The prologue didn’t inspire me with hope, but in no time at all I was drawn in and entranced by the story and its characters - all 3-dimensional. I’d be more than happy to read more stories of this ilk.

Another fantastic tall tale from Kinloch
The adventures of Sandy Hoynes, young Hamish and the fishermen of Kinloch continues, another charming blend of Scots’ wit and whimsy, with a touch of the supernatural thrown in, all brought to life by the amazing narration of David Monteath. Nice touches of continuity between the stories. Very enjoyable.
