About this listen
Eliza is forced into marriage with no idea her life will change for the better. Married less than a year, her unwilling rake of a husband is surprisingly kind to her - until his sudden death. The widowed Countess of Sunderland remains under her in-laws’ protection to raise her newborn daughter. But her abusive father is on the brink of financial ruin and has plans for another wedding.
Nathaniel, Viscount of Pendleton, gains his title at the age of 12. His kindly but shrewd estate manager becomes his father and mentor, instilling in the boy an astute sense of responsibility and compassion for his tenants. Fifteen years later, his family urges him to visit London and seek a wife. The ideal doesn’t appeal to him, but his sense of duty tells him it is the next logical step.
Lord Pendleton stumbles upon Eliza on the road, defending an elderly woman against ruffians. After rescuing the exquisite damsel in distress, he finds himself smitten. But Nate soon realizes he must discover the dark secrets of her past to truly save the woman he loves.
A sweet regency.

Love conquers all
This is a sweet story about Eliza, who’s recently widowed, and Nate, who’s in the market for a wife. They meet by chance when Eliza is running to get away from her horrible father and things devellop between them. I wasn’t prepared for how much fun this book was, the blub didn’t make me expect that. Eliza and Nate are a well suited couple and I believed in their HEA.
Harry Frost was the perfect narrator for this story, his voice is very pleasant to listen to and I liked his voices.
I can recommend this book for romance fans of all ages.

A delightfully sweet romance
I was gripped from start to finish with Eliza's rush to safety from the grips of her brutal father which is so cleverly drawn by the author. It would make an interesting back story to find out what his history was to make him such a demonic character.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the romance blossom between Eliza and Nathaniel and how he encouraged her to gain self-confidence. She thori deserved some happiness after the gruelling time she had had so far in her life.
I also loved Althea and the wonder dog, without whom the story would have been very different.
I am so pleased I found this author and do enjoy reading her books.

I really liked the narrators ability to bring various levels of emotion to the story, as well as the differing accents. I enjoyed the story throughout.

A good story
A good but predictable story. I liked the characters and there was plenty of drama to keep me interested.

Enjoyable but plot full of holes
The heroine is a widow living with her husband's family. Her father would have no right to marry her off.
Her two year old daughter would have had a nanny; not a governess.
The narrator is excellent.
