Summary
Accelerate your organization to win in the marketplace.
How can we apply technology to drive business value? For years we've been told that the performance of software delivery teams doesn't matter - that it can't provide a competitive advantage to our companies. Through four years of groundbreaking research to include data collected from the State of DevOps reports conducted with Puppet, Dr. Nicole Forsgren, Jez Humble, and Gene Kim set out to find a way to measure software delivery performance - and what drives it - using rigorous statistical methods. This book presents both the findings and the science behind that research, making the information accessible for listeners to apply in their own organizations.
Listeners will discover how to measure the performance of their teams and what capabilities they should invest in to drive higher performance. This book is ideal for management at every level.

This should not be an audio book.
This book may haves merits but they are completely lost in the audio book. You cannot follow or learn from this without the book also to hand which defeats the purpose.

No images to see the charts :(
The book is great but the lack of images from the book makes it impossible to follow...

Well presented ideas backed by research
The book presents ideas on building high performing teams and organizations by following lean principles and primarily the learning culture. The ideas are backed by scientific research, giving the much needed credibility to this somewhat fuzzy topic and where other books are often prescriptive and subjective.
The flow of the material is quite intense, and the book requires full concentration to follow.
Some reviewers mention that the audiobook is a poor format for this material, without easy access to the figures and tables. In my experience, many of the figures in the book show relationships between measured constructs and are easily imagined based on the explanation in the text without opening the actual figure. For the remaining figures and tables, the accompanying PDF provides the necessary content.

disappointed
I have enjoyed reading Humble and Fowler before and learnt from them.
This book is going to tell you that the status quo in development is correct. It will not tell you why or give you any useful insights on how to improve. There are no facts in this book. It just says "research has shown...". It will tell you not why or how conclusions are reached. It is jargon heavy and boring. I am up to date in technology and struggled to find any new challenging ideas or even any evidence for their ideas that I am generally following already. I am not sure who is the target audience for this book, I would not recommend it to anyone interested in dev ops or technology.
I narrator is not as aweful as the content. I wish that I can get a refund.

Content is good but difficult to absorb as an audio book
The content is very interesting and having one of the authors read it is great but I just found the subject matter difficult to absorb as an audiobook and ended up buying it as a paperback instead.

A poor fit for the audio format
All the dates and references keep interfering with the points the author is trying to make - listening is a chore and you continuously have to check the accompanying PDF. Choose the regular book over this.

If you are interested into being part of, managing or leading high performance engineering teams
I honestly can’t tell what the bad reviews are about…yes, you do need to pause and look at the pdf quite a bit, and you do need to engage in active listening and reflection, so not something to just listen to on the go. I had to pause and look up other articles and supporting materials and take notes etc, but found it really helpful. Recommend to anyone working in product development/ engineering teams, and if you are not in a leadership position please please spread out the ideas and maybe convince some of your leaders to also engage with the content and ideas.

Not recommended
This book is a collection of all advices combined based on survey Half a book explains basics, what the survey is and barely talks about real solutions or stories simply becuse it’s a research based and esp survey based
On top of that performance is just simply flat and without any excitement for the topic

An excellent reference guide
There are a ton of references and citations here that are useful for anyone looking to put forward a case for transforming their organisation or team. However, as an audiobook this was difficult to digest and isn't told as a particularly engaging story, more as a series of facts. I also found it a little jarring the amount of times the book said what a section was going to be about, then recapped what it was about at the end of the section. I imagine this reads a lot better than it listens.
