About this listen

In the far reaches of space, a tour group embarks on what will be the trip of a lifetime - in more ways than one....

At Sigma Station, a remote mining facility and luxury hotel in deep space, a group of tourists boards a small vessel to take in the stunning views of the Horsehead Nebula. But while they're out there, a mysterious ship with devastating advanced technology attacks the station. Their pilot's quick thinking means that the tourists escape with their lives - but as the dust settles, they realise they may be the only survivors....

Adrift in outer space on a vastly underequipped ship, they've got no experience, no weapons, no contact with civilisation. They are way out of their depth, and if they can't figure out how to work together, they're never getting home alive. Because the ship that destroyed the station is still out there. And it's looking for them....

Rob Boffard's Adrift is a thrilling science fiction tale of survival against all odds - perfect for fans of Alastair Reynolds' Revenger, Becky Chambers' The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, Adrian Tchaikovksy's Children of Time and John Scalzi's The Collapsing Empire.

Slow start but delivered at the end

This was a fairly simple story involving several differing personalities that should have got along but didn't. I didn't really like any of the characters except captain Volkova who was excellently narrated but the story didn't require it anyway. Altogether an enjoyable listen but could have been better.

Completely miscast narrator

It's not often that I listen to an Audible release and have an issue with the narration - usually a bad book and a poor narrator go hand in hand. However, this one is a real quandary. It's the first time that I've thought 'I need to find this on Kindle'.
It's not that Katie Scarfe's performance is poor, far from it in fact. But her approach to what is a essentially a Sci-fi thriller is completely wrong, but my guess is she was directed to read it as such. If it happened to be a graphic sex novel I'd be all over it - the hidden condescension appealing more to that genre. But, as it is, this is not a graphic sex novel and, as such, is an Audible refund request. However, it's a possible purchase from another arm of Amazon because I actually believe the story may have legs.
