Summary

Set in the same universe as the Worldwar series, the Colonization series brings us to Earth in the 1960s, where four superpowers rule: the United States, Russia, Nazi Germany, and the aliens of the Race.

The arrival of the aliens shot Earth technology forward at a dizzying rate---the world of 1960 includes routine space shuttle traffic, computers on every desk, and other high-tech advancements. Aftershocks reveals that it was the United States that launched the nuclear offensive against the aliens, and when the aliens learn the truth, Indianapolis disappears in nuclear fire.

In alien-held China, a full-fledged rebellion is launched, and in Poland, a nuclear bomb goes missing - held by Jewish forces who seek to use it against the Nazis. The nations of Earth begin to realize that their only hope in holding back the aliens will be to work together. Because separately, they may face extinction.

Enjoyable and addictive listening.

I have enjoyed the colonization series but LOVED the WorldWar series. Good story but a little predicable at times. Although I wouldn't describe the others as rollercoasters they were for the most part spontaneous. Considering the next ,and final, book jumps forward in time again I would have expected some of the secondary stories to come to a more definitive end. I felt some things have been missing over this trilogy. Barbara in this series feels like a totally different person than the Barbara we got to know from the WorldWar series. I also miss Ulhas and Risten from the first series who I feel could have been used as significant characters. I also feel that Great Britain and Nippon / Japan could have been major players too. Even if they weren't superpowers. These are the choice of the writer though and not really a failing. As I've said for all the other colonization books, Patrick Lawler does have a good voice with good use of intonation and inflection as a Narrator. But he really struggles with accents and trying to provide the voices of female characters. Todd McLaren who did the WorldWar series did a much better job for both. Enjoying the whole series, they hold my attention and will one day listen to them again.
