About this listen

Despite Tobin O'Neill's humble origins, he finds himself a lieutenant in His Majesty's army, serving on Wellington's staff. When the roguish Irishman strikes up an unlikely friendship with a general's daughter, they somehow become enmeshed in navigating the perils of the greatest battle of their age.

Bridget Murphy had grown up following the drum. Left motherless when a child, she knows no other life and has found purpose in nursing the wounded. The conflict at Waterloo having no regard for rank or fortune in the course of its destruction, they find themselves leaning on each other as they slowly recover from the aftermath.

When they return to Ireland, Bridget's family betrays her, while Tobin's unexpectedly wants to be a part of his life. In a stroke of irony their situations then become reversed, and Tobin now has to convince Bridget that they were meant for each other.

Most enjoyable…

Another book in this series I enjoyed-
And beautifully narrated…

Interesting plot but could have been a bit longer as there are quite few open questions…

Let’s see if they shall be answered in the next book in this series …

A very different romantic novel

This was a very thought provoking story and different to the normal frothy romances. It was beautifully written and excellently narrated. I would recommend it highly.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story

I don’t often write reviews, but I want to share my thoughts on this particular one. Best book of the series so far. Excellent story although sadly very grim to read about the soldiers & horses demise during the battle scenes, but it fits with the story line. Kept me gripped all the way through and listened to the complete book in 2 days. As always Alex Wyndham is an excellent narrator. This book works very well as an audio book. Highly recommended.

Best of the series, so far.

Very peculiar pronunciations of so-called Irish words. I didn't understand half of them. Very, very dodgy Oirish accents!
Very good Waterloo scenes. More consistent character development than the two earlier volumes, except female protagonist was very annoying at the end. Good pacing; complex plot.

Appalling

I haven’t listen to a more miserable book in ages. Normally I really enjoy Alex Wyndham. Even he sounded like he was dragging himself from one chapter to the next. The characters has huge potential but there was no break from one misery to the next, not what I had expected, from this author
