Summary
With the Dark Angels spread across a hundred systems, primarch Lion El'Jonson stands as Lord Protector of Ultramar - though his true motives are known to few indeed, and old rivalries on the home world threaten to tear the Legion in half.
But when word comes of the Night Lords' attack on Sotha, the Lion's brutal actions bring Imperium Secundus once again to the brink of civil war. Not even the most fearsome warriors of the Dreadwing, nor any arcane secret of the Order, can guarantee victory if he sets himself against his loyal brothers.

I've loved the Dark Angels saga and the imperium secundus, especially interesting for me was seeing the astartes deal with asymmetric warfare.

Several arcs reaching their apex in unison.
The series installment I was most looking forward to - it did not disappoint.

Better than expected
I picked this up in a 2 for 1 sale and my expectations were modest given the mixed reviews from others. Upon listening, this book was a pleasant surprise.
There are two main stories: one set on Ultramar and another on Caliban.
Ultramar plot: This hooked me from the get go and kept my interest throughout the book. The complicated dynamics of Imperium Secundus are laid bare and an excellent duel between Primarchs. 5/5
Caliban: Less impressive and can be regarded as the B-plot. Luther is the bright spark that carries an otherwise sluggish narrative. While not required, pre-reading of previous books that weren’t that well received (Descent of Angels, Fallen Angels) is recommended to fully appreciate this. It serves it’s purpose and nothing more. 3/5.
Overall, a 4/5. Excellent main story, B-plot is okay but nothing special.
