About this listen
Romilly had worked hard for her stunning house in one of Bristol's most fashionable suburbs. She adored her daughter and handsome husband, and sure, life was sometimes exhausting - but nothing that a large glass of wine couldn't fix.
But then, as deep-buried insecurities surfaced, everything started to unravel. A glass of wine became a bottle; one bottle became two. Once, Romilly's family were everything to her. Now, after years of hiding the drinking, she must finally admit that she has found another love....

Great book
This story really touched me and made a lot of things clear for me. I absolutely loved the letter, without giving anything out… great narration.

Heartbreaking story
The audiobook is really heartbreaking to listen to in parts. I wanted to dive in and shake Romily at times and beg her to try harder. Just shows the power of alcohol to listen to the choices she made. Wonderful book and so well narrated.

So glad I chose this book
Touchingly honest, no holds barred insight of an experience that I knew existed but had never really understood.
I think this is a brilliant book for anyone contemplating or reflecting on motherhood and for anyone who sometimes feels a little awkward or doubts themselves. I loved the reality of the characters. I was drawn completely into the journey the story took me on. Love and vulnerability was beautifully explained and I found myself able to walk alongside each of the characters as they battled with a darkness that’s frighteningly near to all of us. It’s made me count my blessings and realise how susceptible some of us are to addiction. I finished feeling grateful that I have been lucky enough to dodge a few bullets and more compassionate of those who haven’t been as lucky as me.
I loved having the author read to me. A real privilege.

INCREDIBLY MOVING STORY WHISPERING FLAT NARRATION BY AUTHOR NEEDS PROFESSIONAL ,
THE STORY WAS HEARTBREAKING . UNFORTUNATELY,THE AUTHOR NARRATES HER OWN BOOKS AND HER VERY SOFT VOICE MADE THIS BOOK A STRUGGLE TO LISTEN TO, EVEN AT FULL VOLUME. ALL THE CHARACTERS SOUNDED THE SAME. HOWEVER, I PERSEVERED AS THE STORY WAS SO WONDERFUL.

This book is so well written, I felt every moment
I made the mistake of starting to listen to this around 10 PM, I was so absorbed by the story that I did not sleep that night. It was so moving and relatable, I was literally sobbing at one moment in the book and in tears or close to tears many other times. I will never forget this book.

Perceptive telling of a difficult tale.
This is a compelling, insightful story of the awfulness of alcoholism for one family. It neither sugars, nor overdramatises the issues. It does not pull punches, nor fall into cliched romance. It loses a star due to being a little overwritten. One example of this is when the protagonist popped to a shop for some milk and "the coins were nestling in her hand"! There was quite a lot of this. I think I would have found it more off-putting if I had been reading the book. Thankfully, the narrator read in a very straightforward way, such that between us, I found could largely ignore extraneous stuff.
