Summary
Raphael and Elena are experiencing their first ever year of true peace. No war. No horrors of archangelic power. No nightmares given flesh. Until...the earth beneath the Refuge begins to tremble, endangering not only angelkind's precious and fragile young, but the very place that has held their most innocent safe for eons.
Amid the chaos, Elena's father suffers a violent heart attack that threatens to extinguish their last chance to heal the bonds between them and make sense of the ruins of their agonizing shared history.
Even as Elena battles grief, Raphael is torn from her side by the sudden disappearance of an archangel. But worse yet is to come. An Ancestor, an angel unlike any other, stirs from his Sleep to warn the Cadre of a darkness so terrible that it causes empires to fall and civilizations to vanish.
This time, even the Cadre itself may not be able to stop a ticking clock that is counting down at frightening speed...

Amazing
I was so excited to be back with Elena and Raphael. I usually listen to audio books only in the car when travelling to and from work, but I couldn't put this one down, listening on break at work and for hours in the house. Will definitely be on the relisten list and I can't wait for the next story.

Fantastic Series
It is a testament to the writing, world building, characters and storylines that even at book 16 of this series, I am still enjoying it as much as ever. Especially when it is Elena and Raphael.
So as not to give any specific spoilers. I'll just say some things from earlier books get resolved and we are given more understanding to how things work and happen along with the books new story line.
Already wishing on and waiting for Book 17.

A Mixed Reception for a Highly Anticipated Sequel
I adore this series, eagerly awaiting each new release with bated breath. 'Archangel's War,' one of the previous installment, stands out as my absolute favorite, having captivated me enough to re-read it over seven times. My expectations were high for this latest book. While it is far from a disappointment, it did not quite meet the standards set by its predecessors. I found myself expecting more, hoping for another enthralling adventure that unfortunately fell a bit short this time around.
If you're on the fence, definitely give it a read. You might love it! This series is amazing!
