About this listen
She looked alive, her hair drifting freely in the water, her red lips gently parted, as if to let her final breath escape. A small locket floated by her face, attached to her neck with a silver chain....
When Detective Kay Sharp first left Mount Chester - population 3,823 - in her rear-view mirror, she promised never to look back. The town only contained bad memories and dark secrets. But when a brutal crime surfaces, she finds herself home once more, and this time, she’s not going anywhere.
Kay is called to Blackwater River, where the body of a 17-year-old girl has been found. Surrounded by snowy peaks and a forest alive with the colors of fall, the victim floats in the water, a hand-carved locket around her neck.
The locket seems strangely familiar. Digging into cold cases, Kay discovers that three-year-old Rose Harrelson was wearing it when she vanished 14 years ago. In the middle of the night, the little girl’s bedroom - with Mickey Mouse on the wall and a hanging baby mobile - was suddenly empty. The unsolved case still haunts the town.
But the teenager they have found has been dead for only a few hours. If the girl in the river is Rose, where has she been? Who has been hiding her all these years? Kay knows she must solve the kidnapping in order to untangle the mystery of the dead body.
Then Kay receives a shocking call. The dead girl has been identified - and she’s not Rose. So why is she wearing the locket, and what happened to the missing child from all those years ago? As Kay unearths a web of lies and deceit spun for decades, the close-knit community will never be the same. And Kay will find herself facing a truly terrifying killer....
A totally gripping pause-resister that should come with a health warning! Be warned: you’ll lose sleep and your heart will race like crazy as you listen to twist after twist. Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni, and Kendra Elliot.

Beneath a good book is a great writer
Wow, I loved this as a kindle book but was still very much captivated by the audio book version. Leslie Wolfe always weaves a cleverly crafted plot that contains twists that you don't see coming and this book is no exception and might just contain more than normal. The story is told by multiple characters, as there is a lot going but it never gets confusing, it just drags you deeper into the mystery as you learn a little more. This is book two and can be read as a stand alone but as the first book was just as good why would you? The characters are just great and the author always writes about a compelling and strong lead female character that even though you know she will get the bad guy in the end, you can't help but hold your breath because you care for what happens to her and her family. Especially as most of them have there own complications and troubles to over come while helping others. This in no way distracts from the nail biting roller coaster of a mystery. This is a good example of why Leslie is one of my favourite author's and a must listen.
A romantic spot to propose in, turns into a nightmare for everybody involved. Kay Sharp and ex FBI profiler and her partner Elliot Young is assigned the case but when there is some confusion over the body the medical examiner and all his work is put under the spot light. How can a locket and a DNA match point to a very cold missing person case and the public, parents and DNA claim it to belong to a rich heiress. The investigating into the young girl taken from her bedroom is a mess and Kay has a number of questions for the detective. Before the case can get very far or questions asked Elliot is taken off the case to find a run away teenage girl. Kay's old boss from the FBI also reaches out to her asking for her help investigating one of her new colleagues, a man suspected of being a wife beater and one who has friends in high places and can cover up anything. Can Kay find out the true identity of the body found under the waterfall, finally tell a grief stricken mother what happened to her missing daughter and keep an abused woman safe? And what about the missing runaway? All the cases get complicated and with time running out for the teenager Kay will have to do things her way if she wants to uncover the answers and stop a killer.
I like the narrator. I would say she is a big reason the story is so emotionally charged but I know that is down to the writer. So I will just say she is brilliant at making a tense situation even more so. I hope she continues to read this series.
