About this listen

There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy.

The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers.

I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett.

He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring.
Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams.

Then I met him.

He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder.

Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her.

Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing.

Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me.

Great story, not so great narration.

I have to agree with some of the other reviews the narrator was overly dramatic and hysterical at times when it really wasn’t needed. It made it difficult to listen too and I nearly gave up which would have been a shame as I really enjoyed the storyline.

A fast paced romance with some decent spice!

I love Mafia books and although this wasn’t as high a body count as my fave of her books, Canary, it was really good. There’s history and family obligations, secrets and hidden networks, lust and love, and of course there is a little darkness, because…mafia!!

This is told from the single point of view of Riley, best friend to a mafia princess and love interest of the head of the Bennett family. Sometimes when reading a single point of view book I yearn for the other side of the story and although I would have loved to know what Kai was thinking I think not having his side of the story added to the mystery of him.

There’s plenty of action, kidnapping, escaping, hiding and some shootings too. It’s a fast paced story with heavy emotions. The feelings caught are raw and primal as is the spice. The lusty scenes are delicious and Kai is alpha to the max. He’s the anti-hero you can’t help but fall for. He’s possessive and protective and totally redeems himself at the end with his admission of love.

I didn’t love this narrator, not sure why but that didn’t detract from the story. I still really enjoyed the audiobook. It may have been because she sounded emotional all the time. But like I said it was still a really decent listen and the story is fantastic.

Enter Kai Bennett - my new favourite book boyfriend

Each book that Tijan writes just gets better and better. I don’t think it’s possible, but she does it every single time. Bennett Mafia may just be her best yet, I truly believe that. Two heroes, yes two, because believe me Kai Bennett was not the only hero in this story, I think Riley may have surpassed him for that title, it was a close call. Action, romance with lots of expected, unexpected twists and turns, because let’s face it, this is a Tijan book we’re reading. Nothing is predictable, and I mean nothing. My heart was in my mouth, I was laughing, I was crying, I was hoping, I was praying. I was completely hooked. Mafia romance at its best. I loved the Bennett family, all of them, even when I didn’t. Kai most of all, he was lethal, he was bad, he was good, he was my perfect mafia hero, one step ahead all the time. Riley was passionate, stubborn and the perfect match for my new favourite book boyfriend. I was hooked from the get-go. Perfect story, perfect writing, perfect narration, perfect everything.

It was ok

It wasn't as good as others, however it made up for it in the action packed plots that had twists and turns throughout. I enjoyed it

Terribly tedious and overly dramatic

I usually love Tijan books but I couldn’t even finish this one.

The first several chapters are dull and repetitive, lots of sitting around in the backs of cars, and then it just gets silly.

The female character Riley is so annoying. She’s supposed to be this highly trained agent who helps people escape their aggressors, yet she’s either collapsing with stress or being indignant about the goings on of the Bennett family. Kai is one dimensional and a little dull for a mafia king pin. There’s sex but it’s a bit meh, as there really doesn’t seem to be much of a relationship between the two main characters. The story is all over the place and goes from silly to fantastical.

The narrator is dreadful. Overly dramatic in parts and her male characters are some of the worst I’ve heard. She sounds like Fozzy Bear from the Muppets!

Think I’ll give Tijan’s Mafia stuff a swerve from here on in!

I cant stand the woman shes too hot and cold and might be a little insane with her constantly breaking down and freaking out. i prefer confident, cocky or sarcastic main characters

Good god

This woman is a mentally weak doormat. Why people write this drival is beyond me.
