Summary

Seventeen-year-old Tessa, dubbed a 'Black-Eyed Susan' by the media, became famous for being the only victim to survive the vicious attack of a serial killer. Her testimony helped to put a dangerous criminal behind bars - or so she thought.

Now, decades later, the black-eyed susans planted outside Tessa's bedroom window seem to be a message from a killer who should be safely in prison. Haunted by fragmented memories of the night she was attacked and terrified for her own teenage daughter's safety, can Tessa uncover the truth about the killer before it's too late?

Too long

Bit long and drawn out for me. Good story well written & well told but just too long...

Very disappointed

I heard this book being reviewed on the Simon Mayo show on BBC Radio Two and also looked at reviews on Audible. Somebody compared the book to the brilliance and suspense of Silence of the Lambs and there were other great things said. Well, I just don't get it, I thought it was terribly boring and barely managed to finish it. The characters aren't particularly likable or interesting and nothing grabbed me. I didn't find it had suspense at all because I didn't care who the murderer was or what happened, apart from what happened to Terrell perhaps. Very disappointed.

Good story.

I picked this title up from an Audible recommendation. Not my usual sort of listen but entertaining nonetheless.
The characters are well portrayed and the "truth" doesn't become clear until the very end.
I found this story a bit disjointed in places but overall an entertaining piece.

Save yourself frustration - don’t bother

This was such a frustrating listen! Constant back and forth through time, silly confusing name change, over complicated story with an unbelievable situations and ending.

Brilliant

This is an unstoppable listen. Cutting between now and the distant past, and from character to character, the plot unfolds through many plot twists, each shocking in a psychological, not gory sense.
We are with the central character throughout this journey. Brilliantly written

Too long could have been shorter

Would you consider the audio edition of Black Eyed Susans to be better than the print version?

Yes would probably have given up on the written book

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Made it shorter and changed the ending

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No

Any additional comments?

do not like writing much as do not want to spoil story for others

I thought from reviews that this might be better.

Tessa, at 17 is a surviving, 'Black-Eyed Susan', in fact, the only survivor of a serial killer.

We are introduced to her as a child, as a 17 year old & as an adult convinced now that the wrong man is running out of time, on death row.

We experience her fragmented memories as she searches them, trying to remember more about that period of her life.

In the present, she has lost her best friend, is worried by what she thinks are visitations from the real killer & we see real concern for her daughter, now about the same age.

There is a twist at the end, but I found this book a drudge. I was disappointed.

A real Thriller

An excellently crafted storyline. The narration suits it perfectly and the result is utterly compelling.
