Summary

She was taken against her will.

On her fifteenth birthday, trafficking victim Affi Smith goes for a run and never returns. With a new identity and secure home in the Scottish Highlands, she was supposed to be safe…

She escaped once.

With personal ties to Affi’s case, DS Max Craigie joins the investigation. When he discovers other trafficking victims have disappeared in exactly the same circumstances, he knows one thing for certain – there’s a leak somewhere within law enforcement.

She won’t outrun them again.

The clock is ticking… Max must catch Affi’s kidnappers and expose the mole before anyone else goes missing. Even if it means turning suspicions onto his own team…

Great story and narration

Engaging from start to finish. Good gallery of characters. Ross and Barney add a fun touch of comedy without getting too silly.

Another great Neil Lancaster listen!!

I really enjoyed this audiobook and as always Angus King is on top form. There's another police corruption case for Max and Janie and this time it involves people trafficking and a young teenage Albanian girl. The Albanian mafia are ruthless and are getting away with it as they have someone on the inside at Police Scotland.

Max

Best in series thus far, very enjoyable and hard to put down. Great follow up at sentencing to fully finish this storyline.

Heavenly combo of Craigie and King

Love the complex, textured writing of Neil Lancaster. Absorbing from the outset. Delivered by the wonderful tones on Angus King, the master. More, more of these relatable, involving family of characters.

Very Enjoyable

I enjoy Max, Janie and all the other characters. As Neil said I started listening these books because they were narrated by Angus. Thanks both!

Outstanding

What a fascinating and at times , disturbing book which is so scary as it’s probably true to life for those in the police and dealing with this subject .. I loved the bits of humour in it , especially as Neil pointed out in his interview you hear at the end of the book .. Time to get the next book onto my play list now . Fabulous and the best male narration from Angus .. faultless

Another gripping story - stay for the interview at the end!

Well done Angus King on your Albanian/Scottish accent! It may have wavered in places with Toca, but overall you nailed it! A sensitive topic handled, as always, creatively and satisfying. I agree with Neil on who would play Max on TV, Richard Madden spot on! Highly recommend the whole series. Well done Neil!
