Summary

Criminologist Martin Knight lives a gilded life and is a thorn in the side of the police. But then his wife, Liz, goes missing. There is no good explanation and no sign of Martin.... To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard, who is drawn into the investigation.

Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

Fantastic story and reader

Peopled with believable folk interesting ‘hero “ not really feet of clay but like us all a few flaws. The reader is excellent best for last run of books.

Excellent

This was my first book by this author and I wasn’t disappointed, having read innumerable detective novels I’m always looking for new authors and intend to listen to his other novels.
This is a must read I highly recommend and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent

First book I have listened too by Nick Louth and already bought second in the series. Good story line and took straight away to main character DCI Craig Gillard. Narration was excellent. Looking forward to the rest of the series

Brilliant!

Really enjoyed this from start to finish. Some of the accents were 'off' but it didn't really detract much. Will definitely get more from the author.

Hunter or Hunted

This is the first book by Nick Louth I have read also have the audiobook the story was quite complex but tense and halfway thru | did start to wonder about the suspects won't go into details as it will spoil it for others. I understand this is the first book in the series so I will most probably take the plunge on another of his books. I did feel that DCI Gillard was obsessed with his first love perhaps a bit overdone at times and being the first love at a silly age should have been over and done with by the time he made DCI nonetheless the storyline was good and the case did not finish in record time as a lot of police procedures do but the story did go on for a year or so, in fact, it was nearly a cold case. The narration was not bad but his version of Gillard was quite grating to listen to.

Gripping

This is the best book I’ve read/listened to for ages. I t got my attention from the beginning and never failed keeping my interest. The plot was complicated but in the end plausible. It must have been well researched for which the author has my admiration. I shall be moving on to the next in the series.

Mostly good

Don't want to give anything away... but for me, it was very good for 60% then it got a little ridiculous and over dramatised. Shame & unexpected as it was going so well!
But on the whole easy to listen to.
I think it is worth giving another book in this series a go.

Long and complex: satisfactory read

A case so complex, that it takes the cops 2 cases to solve this one.
The narrator sometimes makes attempts to speak in a foreign accent. I don't like that. Otherwise this is very well narrated.
