About this listen

A beautifully written modern-day love story set in Sri Lanka and London. Emma le Roux is convinced she's seen her brother on the news as a suspect in the recent killing of four poachers. But her brother died twenty years ago. Then le Roux hires Lemmer - a professional bodyguard - to watch her back while she seeks answers. But it soon appears that others want the secrets protected at all costs, and will kill if necessary...

Good story nothing to do with London and Sri Lanka. Don't know what book audible listened to!

Lemmer have some more

Would you consider the audio edition of Blood Safari to be better than the print version?

Well as an avid Meyer fan now after reading all the Benny Grissell stories and Trackers as well. This is one of his best in my opinion. It has everything an action and mystery book should have. And could be a great film.

Have you listened to any of Saul Reichlin’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Top Notch

Good book, slightly unfulfilling

Saul Reichlin, as always, brilliant, the story somewhat rambling. I thought the ending was a bit Hollywood. Nevertheless, an enjoyable listen.

Great Read

As usual Deon Meyer gets it just right. Where else in the world would you have this sort of plot based on how it is in South Africa.

Exceptional writing

I have recently discovered Deon Meyer's books. Blood Safari has a thrilling trajectory but is enriched by interesting characters and a plot worthy of John le Carre. He has great powers of description and writes plausible realistic and gripping narratives. This is, despite the lurid title, which nearly put me off, a substantial piece of fiction.
Saul Reichlin gives a master class in reading with a cast of dozens of characters each with a distinctive accent and timbre. Highly recommended.

Overall Indifference.

I got this book because it was supposedly set in Sri Lanka and London. It wasn't.

After that disappointment, I found something lacking in this book. It was like it tried too hard to be a love story and a thrilling novel, but never quite got there. There was some good, some bad (mainly the way Lemmer described the women in the book), but a general feeling of boredom through it all.

Great setting in South Africa.

No mention of Sri Lanka!?
Loved the descriptions of the Karoo and Kruger - the people. Racy story despite a few blanks interspersed with eclectic collection of political thoughts. Kept me listening intently to end.

A remarkable tale.

Deon Meyer is one of my most favourite authors. Saul Reichlin helps bring his stories to life in an authentic manner, ensuring that each character's voice is pure to whatever his South African background is.

I found this story very moving. Very profound because I remember that terrible day we heard that Samora Machel had died in an accident. Deon Meyer tells the story so beautifully.
