Summary

Monsters breed legends…and legends breed monsters. This is the way of things. This is the way of the Ranger.

Turned from the path of the assassin, Asher roams the world no better than a nomad, with naught to offer but his sword and grit. But woe betide the monster that believes his sword and grit will not be enough…

In a twisted chance of fate, the brash actions of Doran Heavybelly—a dwarven hunter with a lot to say—forces Asher back into the world of man. And so the ranger is brought into the light, into the gaze of Illian’s greatest crime guilds and onto the lawless island of Dragorn.

A deal must be made, and with a creature far worse than any of the fiends Asher has put to his sword. To save those who cannot save themselves, the ranger must choose between his life and theirs. Should he make such a deal, 'tis not his life that would be forfeit but the man he has worked so hard to become.

In the end, it will all come down to blood and coin…

This whole series is epic

This Series is one of my favourites not since Gemmell have I been so engrossed. Drove to Devon and back in what felt like 10 mins when it was a 9 hour drive. I do have the speed at 0.9 as it’s a bit fast for me makes all the difference.

Brilliant listening

What can I say. Story brilliant, characters well written, narration, first class. I thought I would get tired of these characters. But honestly I can’t wait when a new book has been written and equally can’t wait to hear the narration. Five stars all the way.

Philip C Quaintrell just keeps on amazing us readers

Asher is undoubtedly the most popular and iconic character in this multiverse. This “prequel sequel” merely reinforces this. Great character development, spectacular fight sequences as always and wonderful twists and turns that are almost expected of this creative and exciting writing talent…can’t wait for more and can’t endorse this next chapter in the world that Mr Quaintrell has created enough.

Superb. A classic in the making.

Philip C Quaintrall continues to impress as a fantasy author. The Ranger Chronicles is THE next smash hit fantasy series. Superb in every respect.

another exceptional listen.

every time i finish of of these books I longingly wait for the next one in the series, having now covered asher as an adult , and the 2 books showing how he came to his ranger status : will we get anymore?
please say yes and that brand will narrate, i love his voice with it tone and inflection in the right places. brand interprets the authors meaning and nuance so perfectly; I'm also hoping we don't have to wait too much longer.
in the meantime i spend an age trawling through the other steven brand narrated books but so far none have come up to scratch.

Brilliant as always

I never tire of stories involving Asher and his companions. Although I do hope after this series of prequels that he revisits the “present” adventures with Asher and his dragon

Blood and coin

another absolutely great book. Can’t get enough of the series and cannot wait for the next one. The only downside is I now have to wait for the next one.
