About this listen

Mack begins her training at the mages' academy in the hope that, by complying, the stasis spell will be lifted from her old friend Mrs. Alcoon. However, once there, she finds herself surrounded by unfriendly adults and petulant teenagers, the majority of whom seem determined to see her fail.

Feeling attacked on all fronts, Mack finds it harder and harder to keep a rein on her temper. Forced to attend anger management classes and deal with the predatory attentions of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the shapeshifter world, her emotions start to unravel. But when she comes across a familiar text within the walls of the mages' library, which might just provide the clues she needs to unlock the secrets of her background and her dragon blood, she realizes that her problems are only just beginning.…

slow, lumbering and infuriating female character, her anger becomes boring and laborious.

her "sexual tension reads like a tantrumous primary school crush instead of the adult the character feverently shouts about being everytime someone questions her authority" most "twists" are pointless to the story and feel like anime filler episodes in book form. do like the idea and the overall story of this series it's just exceptionally infantile in far too many places...we could of had a proper romance blossoming by book 3 instead of this constant accusation of the main character being a slut every times she's spotted with another male character. the mystery of her heritage is also a drawl and could be written better.

Okay

This book was okay but not great. The beginning was a bit daft to be honest and just made Mack seem stupid and gullible. The story did get a little better towards the end, but it still wasn't amazing. I also have to say that I was surprised by how much I didn't enjoy the narration of this book. I usually like Saskia Maarleveld, she has a pleasant voice and her accents are okay, but in this she just irritated me. It was also very off putting that she kept using American pronunciations for words while speaking in a British accent. If you're going to bother putting on an accent to narrate a book the very least you can do is make sure you say words correctly. All in all this series has been a bit of a let down. I'll finish it as I want to know what happens, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Fake British accent is bloody annoying

First of all: Why on earth would you choose an American narrator for a book series set in the UK with British characters? The fake, often slipping accents are completely off-putting.
Apart from that, the story is meh. Everyone is mean and the heroin is always angry. Reads like unimaginative YA.
