Summary

GiGi (well, Griselda Griswald actually, but everybody calls her GiGi) is a woman with a mission: to help people improve the way they look, increase their self-esteem, and eventually, make them happier.

Being a personal shopper is a dark art, with few tangible rewards. Spread by word of mouth, her clients would never admit they needed her assistance. Not even if they were put under torture. Let us be honest, who would admit to being in need of a style consultant? It is like being an alcoholic: the first step is to admit you need help and acknowledge that that pair of leggings, now that you are in your mid-50s, do not suit you anymore. When you have recognized it, you are on the path to recovery, and GiGi's services will help you, despite her mother nagging that what she is doing is not a real job. People need advice and often a fresh point of view helps in rejuvenating a wardrobe that, with time, has become boring. Would they admit it? Not a chance!

So, it is just a matter of going around and helping people buying clothes and shoes? Not quite so. Money is tight; GiGi has to work with rich and very eccentric people who often do not have any idea about what they want. She and her business partner Ritchie are in a constant struggle to keep the business afloat, but as they say in Dragon’s Den, she is very investable.

But, with success comes the difficulties, the Battersea Fashion Center is going to open soon, just opposite of her office, and they claim they will be fierce competitors. A powerful enemy is lining up ready to make a meal out of her, knowing very well that GiGi’s approach, eventually, will make her a force to be reckoned with.

Whilst she invents new ways to make her consultancy firm successful, she finds who could be the love of her life, thanks to some of her best friends. The business is eventually expanding and they take onboard new partners along the way, making them one of the most influential fashion consultants in London.

Review

I loved this book, I loved the characters and the story. It just struck the right note for me... A story of someone daring to try and live their dream. It had great bumps and hiccups along the way and I honestly had quite a few good chuckles in between.
The narrator Justine Ellis did a fabulous performance of the book and really brought the characters to life.
I'll be watching out for more from this writer as well as the narrator.

Utterly implausible story, but enjoyable!

I got frustrated with the business model, and it’s a slow plot, but it’s really well narrated, and I wanted to see Justin get his come-uppance!

Oh what a shame.

I really really struggled with the narrator with this book. I couldn't concentrate. I did listen to a sample, as always, but I found her voice really grated!
I listened to the story, but oddly I preferred the short story that I listened to previously.
I found this one a little to drawn out and felt as though there were bits added that really didn't need to be.
There were some funny bits that I really did enjoy though.

Let's go shopping!

I enjoyed the Prequel to this novel, The Retail Therapist, meeting Gigi and her friend Ritchie for the first time. Now we get to spend more time with them as Gigi tries, often against the odds, to build her fashion consultancy business.
The only thing that I guess didn't really sit well with me, was how judgmental Gigi is of others' dress sense; I'm sure she'd have shot me down in flames.

Justine Ellis makes an excellent job of narrating this novel, based on Gigi's efforts to build her business and expand into male shopping consultancy. There are plenty of ups and downs along the way, as there would be in any growing business. There are competitors who would sabotage her efforts and friends who stand behind her. There are less successful projects and others who become recurring happy customers. And then there's the love interest, which also has its ups and downs.
I think what I liked most about this book is that Gigi doesn't rush to buy the latest items as they come out, she shops selectively, in clearance warehouses and end-of-line stores, which really spoke to the anti-waste person in me.

This was an enjoyable frivolous read, just what we all need during this strange year.

Highly entertaining story

I listened to this on audiobook.

I absolutely enjoyed this story from start to finish, it was fun, entertaining with plenty of drama throughout.

It was a pleasure to be reaquainted with the character of Gigi, she truly is a fun, bubbly, down to earth sort of girl as well as being extremely loyal and a great friend. The friendship bond between her and Richie was purely refreshing.

Gigi had a lot of obstacles abd decisions to make in this story, and it was great to see how she dealt with each one and the final outcome come the conclusion of the story.

As for Gigi love life, does she find her Mr Right or not, well I won't spoil it for you, so you'll just have to read/listen to the story yourself.

Warm and funny a great audio

So Gigi is back sorting out your wardrobes and also finally sorting out her love life but not without some interference along the way from a dreaded shopping mall opening across the street. As dirty tricks are played Gigi and Ritchie battle on doing what they do best and helping the desperate who don’t have a clue what to wear. This audio is not only beautifully narrated by Justine Ellis but also a funny and heartwarming tale and in a way Gigi reminds me of a more sensible (at least in business) Bridget Jones. It’s an uplifting listen.

Light but engaging listen

This was a great book to listen to at this time - light, fun with some quirky elements (loved the cathartic burying episode). There were elements of the story that I would like to have been explored in more detail and some people could have had their stories fleshed out but overall an engaging cast of characters and an enjoyable tale.

Easy, enjoyable listen

I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. It was funny, entertaining and very easy to listen to. The narrator told the story well. The characters were funny, relatable and likeable. The story is about a women that has a dream and goes for it. I would recommend this story wanting an easy, enjoyable listen.

Lovely

I enjoyed this book. The story was full of great characters. I admit that at the start I missed the previous book's narrator but she grew on me.
