Summary

Nine-year-old Archie and his five-year-old sister, Bobbi, are taken into emergency police protective custody after an incident of domestic violence at their family home.

Rosie collects the children from their out-of-hours foster carer on New Year's Day and instantly recognises Archie from a domestic violence workshop she helped with. Rosie remembers that when asked what he enjoyed most about the course, Archie said, 'The biscuits'.

Social workers are concerned that Archie and Bobbi have been neglected. As Rosie gets to know the children, she begins to suspect that something far more disturbing lies in their past.

Archie, jovial and polite, bats away Rosie's attempts to talk to him about anything serious with witty one-liners and sophisticated distractions. Bobbi reacts violently, lashing out and throwing herself around. Rosie has never seen a child as young a Bobbi behaving so viciously, but it is Archie she is most concerned about as the weeks go by.

After a worrying incident at school, Archie tearfully discloses the truth - a shocking secret that has left him and his sister traumatised. Horrified at what she learns, Rosie is determined to help the young siblings find a forever home that will provide them with the love and care they deserve.

Let down by narrator

The monotonous tone and rushed reading by the narrator didn't do this story any justice! This is the first book I've listened to by this author and sadly will be the last unless they change the narrator. I'll just have to wait for some new cathy glass ones that are much more worthy of my credits

A little confusing at times but an ok listen

I thought that the story was interesting but the tone of voices didn’t differ much between characters so I found it difficult to keep track with who was who and who was saying what. I also thought the story lacked details so I was a little disappointed. I don’t think I’ll get another from this author but if you liked this try listening to Cathy glass I think they are better written

Good but not great

I love Rosie's writing, but the ending of this book felt incredibly rushed. One minute everything hangs precariously in the balance, the next it's a happy ending for all involved. It was the first time one of her books disappointed me.

powerful and full of emotion.

This was another good book by this author, they are very hard to read because of the problems that a lot of the children in her care have to go threw but it's always heart warming to read about the care and love she shows them. Rosie always fights to do what is best for the children in her care and is determined to find out the truth so she can help them get the love they deserve. Bobby and Archie are 9 and five years old and are removed from there home after social services become concerned for there safety. Bobby throws tantrums and has regular melt downs that makes Rosie shocked to see such a young child behave in the way she does. However as the weeks progress it's Archie her brother who Rosie becomes more concerned about. after he finally reveals the secret of there past, Rosie is determined to make sure they find that forever home where they can be loved. Rosie is a great foster carer who does everything she can for the children in her care even sometimes going beyond the call of duty. The reader handles the subject matter very sensitively and reads the books very well. Looking forward to hopeful future books by this author.
