About this listen
The tenth book in the Sunday Times-bestselling Inspector McLean series, from one of Scotland's most celebrated crime writers
When a member of the Police Scotland team fails to clock-in for work, concern for her whereabouts is immediate... and the discovery of her burnt-out car in remote woodland to the south of Edinburgh sets off a desperate search for the missing woman.
Meanwhile, DCI Tony McLean and the team are preparing for a major anti-corruption operation - one which may raise the ire of more than a few powerful people in the city. Is Anya Renfrew's disappearance a co-incidence or related to the case?
McLean's investigations suggest that perhaps that Anya isn't the first woman to have mysteriously vanished in these ancient hills. Once again, McLean can't shake the feeling that there is a far greater evil at work here...

Great listen
Another great story in the McLean series - my favourite to date. Lighter on the occult/grisly violence content than some of the previous books I found the story very entertaining and I liked the way the story of the two teenage lads interwove with the main story line. Did miss Madame Rose but all the other great characters were back and very glad to hear Tony and Emma getting on better. Sad to hear Grumpy Bob retiring soon though, won't be the same without him ( don't worry, I do know this is fiction and they aren't all real people )!!

Excellent storytelling - as always!
This is the latest in James Oswald's Tony McLean series and did not disappoint. Ian Hanmore's narration was, as usual, superb and he brought the characters to life. Now the wait starts for the next one.....

Good, then a rushed and implausible ending
I enjoy the Inspector Maclean books, the supernatural element sets them apart from the masses of other tartan noir. Throughout the story there are hints of supernatural elements to come, but then it seemed to run out of steam at the end and didn’t quite know what it wanted to be. And when Tony finds an underground passage lit by flaming torches the credibility disappeared for me. No matter how evil the villain they must see that these days flaming torches are an impractical means of providing lighting 🙂.
