Better than most lectures.
I've listened to a number of lecture series on the Romans. I am by no means an expert but having heard quite a range this book was one of the most enjoyable, and easiest to follow.

Great, I would listern to this again and again.
Amazed at the distance travelled by the Roman armies. They could have been quite successful if they had just stopped fighting each other.

Modern terminology
Great listen but use of modern titles gets a bit annoying, it’s not hard to work out for the reader once the modern and ancient titles have been explained so no need to dumb down.

Fantastic
I loved this book from start to finish. I even enjoyed the way the author used ranking systems which the average reader might be more familiar with. Thanks!

Caesar’s favorites, and the armies that shaped the Roman world.
The story of Roman military, its many changes and leaders, and the many individuals who made Roman might supreme. The men who shaped and filled out the legions, and the at times intimate relationships between Caesar and his legions - between General and soldier. Highly fascinating, even if the modern terminology can be equally confusing as it can be helpful.

The Tenth Legion
I thought this was a fantastic book. Very well researched , it explained Roman thinking and attitudes as well as pure military history. It did get a bit repetitive with battle after battle , but that’s Roman history for you. I learned a lot from this book and highly recommend it

Good but remiss
An excellent solid piece of history, I really did like this book and I really did like the narrator......but, changing the rank structure to modern day was totally weird, it just didn't gel, it comes unstuck when you're talking about a pro-counsel or a legate and then all of a sudden, a brigadier general or major general. It's Roman history with its own Roman rank structure. If it ain't broke don't fix it. It's called HISTORY for a reason. I think Mr Dando -Collins underestimates his audience.
