Summary

Struggling with a new baby, Yvonne turns to netmammy, an online forum for mothers, for support. Drawn into a world of new friends, she spends increasing amounts of time online and volunteers more and more information about herself. When one of her new friends goes offline, Yvonne thinks something is wrong.

But when the body of a young woman with striking similarities to Yvonne’s missing friend is found, Yvonne realises they’re all in terrifying danger. Can she persuade Sergeant Claire Boyle, herself about to go on maternity leave, to take her fears seriously?

Mammies!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes - I would change a great deal of the language. Got tired of "bollocks", "arse", "Jesus" and of course "fecking" and its variants.

What was most disappointing about Sinead Crowley’s story?

I bought this because her third book got rave reviews and thought I should start at the beginning of the series. In fact it seems more like chick-lit (or perhaps hen-lit since most of the characters are mothers), involving a (naturally heavily pregnant) police inspector.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Amy Creighton?

Anyone who does not have that terrible Dublin accent - "not yesh", "whash?", etc.

Was Can Anybody Help Me? worth the listening time?

Not really - but I am persevering (only half-way through) in hopes the murderer get away with it.

Any additional comments?

First time I've ever rooted for the killer!

Excellent ending

Any additional comments?

I have to admit I found some of this book very annoying. There's a great deal about being a new mum, or being pregnant. I found Clare's attitude to her pregnancy at age 39 to be very harsh and I didn't warm to her character because of that. Yvonne was equally as annoying and pathetic. The book is somewhat redeemed by the ending, which was totally unexpected. Although again, why the villain behaved the way he did wasn't explained. But, quite honestly, I could have happily murdered that gaggle of squawking, clucking 'netmammies'!!

I'm just a bit bored!

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It's not bad, but it just didn't grab me. I found by a third or so of the way in, I just didn't really care what happened. I will be returning it.
