About this listen
Is your dog suffering from separation anxiety? Ten simple ways to train your puppy (and your dog) to overcome his fear of being home alone.
Did you know that up to 1 in 5 dogs now suffer from separation anxiety?
Does your dog jump all over you when you return home or mess up the house when you are out? Does he chew your furniture or your shoes? Do you hate leaving home because your dog looks so sad when you leave? Have your neighbors told you that your dog barks when you are not home? Do you feel guilty that you are a bad parent to your dog every day, every time you leave the house?
All of the above have applied to me, and it happened twice with the same dog - just in a different way. Once when he was younger and then again after lockdown in 2021.
At first, I didn’t even know. It was a neighbor who had to tell me about the howling. I hated leaving the house and leaving my dogs behind. I worried all the time if they were okay, I worried about what they were doing when I was out, what noise they might be making, and I was always keen to get home and excited to get back to them - but worried about what I might face.
After trying many different ways and finding out as much as possible, I realized that there were lots of things that might cause the anxiety.
Some of the things you are going to learn about in this book include:
- What causes separation anxiety
- How to identify separation anxiety
- Preparing the room for separation
- Leaving and returning
- Exercise, off leash, and recall
- Games you can play
One of the biggest reasons that dogs today are put up for adoption is due to separation anxiety where the owners can no longer cope. For this reason, I decided to write everything down that I have learned and that I have used in my own life and with others. But I also realized that it was much more common than I had thought with many dogs suffering from a fear of being alone. For those of us with slightly older dogs, separation anxiety may come as an unwelcome surprise. But it is possible to find a way to deal with it.
You will be surprised at the number of small things that might be making your dog feel this way and just how easy some of the solutions might be.
Of course, some for of separation anxiety will be more severe, and your dog might need more help, but if you have not tried these methods before, they are well worth trying.

Super helpful!
Covid has had an impact on us all, in some way or another... but most of us wouldn't stop to think about how it has affected our pets! Going from normal life to being in lockdown (and with them 24/7 for perhaps months on end), to then returning to some sort of normality and leaving them behind again.. This book has certainly helped me to understand what causes separation anxiety, how to identify it and overcome it.
A must for any dog owner!

I bought for the cover, but stayed for the content
Going into this book I wasn't really aware of separation anxiety as I haven't had my dog very long and have been home with him 24/7 due to the lockdown. This book has really opened my eyes and taught me a lot that I didn't know about the strain of separation for a dog. I will definitely be following the training steps. So thank you to the author.

I found thus book extremely helpful!
I got my first ever dog 2 months ago. listening to this book made me realise why my dog was being anxious everytime I left the room!!
I was giving him too much love and attention all the time...he's just too cute!
Since I got this book, I'm trying to follow the tips and tricks to help my dog become more confident with being at home alone.
I have learned that I can still love my dog but just have to be careful not to make him too dependent on my presence.
I love the games chapter...I will definitely try the cheese game, sounds like a fun game!!

Great well-rounded guide!
When I was a kid, our dog always used to get horrible anxiety when we went on holiday! Luckily we had a great neighbour who he loved and stayed with, so that made it a bit easier!
This audiobook is a great resource for all dogs and their humans who have to deal with this too.
It explains really well why dogs get anxiety and the signs, and then follows with practical tips on how to prepare and train your dog to lessen the symptoms next time.
I also really appreciate the chapter about avoiding punishments and why they don't work.
Overall a great guide!

So useful
This is a must book for all dog owners. I bought my dog during the lockdown so I’ve been with him all the time ever since he became a part of the family. It’ll be interesting to see what will happen when I start going to work and how the separation is going to affect him. Thankfully, this book introduced me to lots of tools that I can use to help him deal with his anxiety.

Home Alone...
Is your dog suffering from separation anxiety?, This very well narrated audiobook deals with the separation issue your dog could be encountering, and how to teach them to know that you will return. It's heartbreaking to watch your pet suffering, as they can't bear to see you leave. however, with these 10 easy training steps, your dog will learn to live without the need to be around you all the time. This is a wonderful book.

Obviously written by someone who loves their dog.
I must confess, I do not have a dog. I have always loved dogs and always wanted one. my first wife hated dogs and I could not get one. When I got divorced, it was not practical for me as I worked away from home. Then I got married again. My second wife doesn't like dogs either. I told her, if anything happens to her, next time I am getting a dog.
I love dogs and love reading about them, so this book was a delight, but maybe tugging some heartstrings too. the book certainly delves into the behaviour of dogs when you leave them alone at home and explains many of the reasons why you may have problems with your dog when you leave it.
If you are experiencing problems with your dog being left at home, then you need to read this book.

100% needed
My little Tilly is the definition of separation anxiety. Especially since I started going back to the office post-COVID and she can't cope if I'm out of the hose for more than 30 minutes. I tried having the radio on but that didn't seem to work. Lots of helpful tips and tricks in here and a must for any dog owner.
