Summary

A violent thunderstorm floods London. Florida is laid waste by hurricanes. Somehow the Mysterons are controlling the world’s weather, and only Spectrum can stop the devastation.

Captains Scarlet and Blue head into space aboard Fireball XL19 to destroy a weather-control satellite that has been taken over by the Mysterons—only to discover that the real cause of the destruction is much closer to home.

As Scarlet and Rhapsody Angel confront the mastermind behind the latest Mysteron attacks, they discover the true scope of his plan, and if they cannot stop him, then the Earth faces certain climatic catastrophe.

Based on the 1967 novel Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons by John Theydon.

The original tv series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons was created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

Virtually indestructible man fights the Mysterons

I'm a lifelong Anderfan. (I remember the launch of Thunderbirds! Yes. THAT old!) 😉 I have to admit being a little dubious about this programme. However the fact David Graham and Liz Morgan are involved persuaded me to give it a try. I'm glad I did!

As narrator I think David Graham did his usual superb job keeping the tension up and hearing the talents of Liz Morgan (another Anderson stalwart) in the female roles was a real treat. Especially Rhapsody! (I'm sure that's where my soft spot for redheads comes from. 😱)

The writing is taught for the most part, but for me, some of the descriptions were occasionally a little too much like padding. However, that maybe a little unfair to those less familiar with Spectrum and Captain Scarlet than me. The story fairly rattled along at a breakneck pace twisting and turning wonderfully, coming to the ultimate conclusion in a suitably satisfying way.

GEEK ALERT! One thing I really enjoyed was the sound effects used. Playing spot the machine. I definitely heard BIG RAT, several vehicles from other shows even computers from Moonbase Alpha! That's just on first listen. I'll definitely be listening again, many times. 😃

In conclusion, this is a very good listen, well written, well made and excellently performed by the three actors involved. A creditable addition to the Anderverse in my personal opinion. I shall certainly be checking out other Big Finish productions if this is anything to go by. SIG!
