About this listen

When 13-year-old Lily's inventor father vanishes on a routine Zeppelin flight, Lily's determined to find out the truth behind his disappearance. But she's not the only one searching for her father; there are silver-eyed men in the shadows who will stop at nothing to find him.

With Robert, the local clockmaker's son, Lily travels to London, where they soon discover that she holds the key to the mystery...a mystery closer to Lily's heart than she could have ever imagined.

Terribly Miscast Narrator

Should have been read with more gravitas. A good story, but very difficult to access because the narrator adopted the wrong tone. A good voice for getting her newborn off to sleep... Not for inspiring young readers.. A swing and a miss.

THIS IS THE BEST AUDIOBOOK EVER

this is a very relaxing audiobook

the narrator has a calming voice and helps you sleep. I would definitely recommend it for children aged 9 to 12.

Great story, appalling narration

This is a wonderful book which is fully deserving of 5 stars, however the style of narration is soporific at best, frustrating and unlistenable at worst. Different narrators can produce polarising responses, depending on the listener. For me, each new listen invoked the same jarring response. After 5 minutes, I became more adjusted to the slow paced, reading with strange emphasis. I hate to be so negative but I feel Rachael Beresford has been miscast for this book. I am sure she has talent and would be ideal for reading a relaxation/sleep story.

I loved the story and the exceptional plotline :)

Although it took a while to get myself to fully listen to it, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to ages above 9 as there is a lot of blood and a bit of gore. The plotline was very good even if a bit confusing at times but thankfully the amazing ending tied it all together. Lastly, I think that the reader read very clearly which helped me still understand it even when it was sped up.

I love this book “also in the review that i wrote it has a quick story in it

So I have seen lost of bad reviews because of the readers voice it does take a bit of getting used to but for me this is a 10/10 story but that is my opinion and also I will tell u a quick story when a was about 10-11 I was going into school and I was walking with cog-heart on and when I got in I forgot to turn it off so when the class went silent all u heard was “something crawled across her ankle and she brushed it away with the tip of her shoe”🤣🤣🤣

Brilliant - Give the Narrator a Second Chance

Lots of reviews complained about the narration, however we had listened to her read A Place Called Perfect (also brilliant). Her voice does take a bit of getting used to but it is perfect for the mystery and drama of the book. It's also a good pitch for before bedtime, though the story was so good we listened to it whenever we could!

The story is brilliant - heartwarming, sad and clever. Give it a go - you won't regret it. Good for children from 8-12yrs.

Great book! Great narrator! Great… great EVERYTHING!!! 😁😁😁

I like that narrator. She has a nice voice. I like the way she reads.
The book itself is awesome! I love the plot twist at the end!! I never suspected Prof. Silverfish! I like Lily and Malkin. It’s an amazing book!
Would recommend it to because it is a good book and it’s not particularly gory.
