Summary

Dan 'Spider' Shepherd returns in the third stunning action thriller from best-selling author Stephen Leather.

Even deadlier than terrorists...are the men trying to stop them.

People-smuggling, counterfeit currency and attempted murder. It's all in a day's work for undercover cop Dan 'Spider' Shepherd. But what starts as a run-of-the mill investigation quickly turns into a matter of life and death when he uncovers a terrorist cell on a mission of death and destruction. The target: hundreds of passengers on a cross-channel train deep below the English Channel.

With the clock ticking and the explosives primed, Shepherd and his colleagues have to decide just how far they are prepared to go to save innocent lives. And they realise that to avoid catastrophe, they have to be even more merciless than the terrorists.

Action packed

Excellent story line plenty of action looking forward to the next book. I really enjoyed the caricatures.

another good listen

A good book if you like things like the Jack Reacher series, but British style and working for the state.

Standard

I just feel like it could have bucked the stereotypes a bit. It actually had a "maverick cop sparring with a female shrink" bit to establish his heroism, stoicism and a showcase a little bit of sexism. I laughed out loud at this scene. It was useful exposition but it was so clichéd it was nearly a parody of the genre. Hard to take any if it seriously after that.

Not quite as dull as ditchwater though close call.

In my opinions the reviews flatter this title. The story was mundane at best. The one saving grace was the narrator, Paul Thornley, who always does a good job. I kept waiting for the main story to kick in and go into 2nd gear but it never did, instead it chugged all the way in first till the disappointing end.
