About this listen
The ninth book in the Sunday Times-bestselling phenomenon that is the Inspector McLean series, from one of Scotland's most celebrated crime writers.
Her lifeless body is hidden in the dark corner of a basement room, a room which seems to have been left untouched for decades. A room which feels as cold as the grave.
As a rowdy demonstration makes its slow and vocal way along Edinburgh's Royal Mile, Detective Chief Inspector Tony McLean's team are on stand-by for any trouble. The newly promoted McLean is distracted, inexplicably drawn to a dead-end mews street... and a door, slightly ajar, which leads to this poor girl's final resting place.
But how long has she been there, in her sleep of death? The answers are far from what McLean or anyone else could expect. The truth far more chilling than a simple cold case...
The unmissable new thriller in James Oswald's best-selling Inspector McLean series.

Excellent
Another fantastic Tony McLean story. James Oswald you are amazing! A really good mix of human emotions, current political issues and something creepy/spooky going on.

Interesting read.
I have been a bit addicted to the Inspector McLean Series, but it may be getting a wee bit too silly now. The Gipsy Rose stuff is good and all very plausible if your believe that sort of thing, but glowing red eyed monsters are just a step too far. However apart from that, this is a very good book and I enjoy the Edinburgh familiarity. Over time I have become quite attached to Tony, Grumpy Bob et al... and hope there will be another in the series - without the monster! The narration by Ian Hanmore is excellent!

Brilliant and very entertaining.
A hauntingly defective story with the most amazing twists and turns and a completely unexpected outcome.

Excellent!
Another brilliant yarn from the pen of James Oswald. You could be forgiven for thinking his Inspector McLean is very often the architect of his own misfortunes - the man never takes a day off - and considering the disaster area that is his private life , he really, really should!
I could listen to Ian Hanmore on a daily basis - beautifully modulated enunciation with such an evocative accent.
I never tire of Madame Rose! She is so well-drawn, I feel I can see and hear her, although we don't see a lot of her in this sorry tale of people-trafficking, war-torn eastern countries and the ever evil Jane Louise Dee - or Mrs. Saifre (sp) . Poor McLean ends up in hospital yet again - hope his employment package has unlimited medical insurance... 😉
Can't wait for the next one James!

Another great installment
I always look forward to another book in this series.
great story, this one touching on a sensative subject for most.
the story was written well, keeping the villan a mystery until the very end.
over the series you grow to care for the main characters and want them to succeed
If you like a crime thriller with magic undertone, this is a book for you

Great book
What can I say, James Oswald has done it again! I so love all his books, modern detective with a slight sprinkle of supernatural, it works! I haven't found another author I enjoy quite as much. Now just got to wait for the next!

Good set of books
Good book. Great that it's narrated by a Scottish voice. I think that really makes it.

Another great book!
Once again, James Oswald has given us another great book. Loved the story, and was really pleased to hear Ian Hanmore narrating, it wouldn’t be the same without him.
